What Good Are Good Intentions?

James 4:15-17  “For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
We all go thru life with intentions or plans on doing something tomorrow; but many of these plans get cancelled, pushed aside by “more important things,” or simply forgotten.
Sadly that is exactly how we react to the will and calling of God on our lives; we simply put Him on the back burner, or even worse let His call grow cold in our lives, and His voice become more and more distant…
Luke instructs us in 14:28 to “Count the Cost” and to be sure we have what it takes to finish the job (Our journey with the Lord). It is better to to have not known righteousness than to turn from it after we have known (2 Peter 2:21). And Luke 9:62 says: And Jesus said unto them: No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Proverbs 14:12 puts it like this: “There is a way which SEEMETH right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” If we read the rest of this chapter it brings clarity to what Solomon is saying here; when we fear God and follow His Word, we find Righteousness and Contentment; When we follow mans ways and thoughts; there is only wickedness and destruction ahead!!
So lean not to your own understanding and make full proof of your calling in the Lord; work while there’s still time. Don’t put off til tomorrow what God is calling you to do today; time is quickly passing by Saints! I urge you to not let good intentions turn to sin and death.
